Our farm name is Jumping Tree Farm. And no, it’s not because our goats can jump trees (although they love climbing boulders). On this piece of land — with its long history and numerous features, ranging from a pine wood to a rocky ridge where the natives used to camp — a strange thing happened.

The Jumping Tree

You see, there was a maple tree that was struck by lightning. It stood long and fast for many years, unmovable in high winds and unshakable on rain-soaked ground. Over time, its limbs became gnarled. New growth faded. And one day, the maple tree decided it had enough.

We discovered it one morning lying on the road as if offering itself to the axe and chain saw. But it was nowhere near its stump. The poor tree appeared to have jumped onto the road for our cutting and chopping convenience.

And that’s how we became Jumping Tree Farm.
